Wild Swan Theater’s humorous version of Jack’s adventure climbing the magical beanstalk is sure to please our littlest audience members. A very silly (and unscary) giant is just no match for Jack’s wits as he scrambles up and down the beanstalk, rescuing his father from the giant’s clutches and earning back his pet cow, Milky White.

Founded in 2007, Gallim Dance is dedicated to creating and performing original work by Andrea Miller, building the careers of young artists, and inspiring the imagination of a diverse international audience. The New York based company hostsyear round education and performance programs for both dancers and non-dancers. Come be inspired by the dance company hailed by The New York Times as “excellent, inventive [and] impressive.”

Inspired by the myth of Sysyphus, and set to an original music composition by Jerome Begin and Christopher Lancaster, Sit, Kneel, Stand explores the combination of absurdity and joy in the tireless efforts of our shared human experience.

Join Fancy Nancy on her national tour! Presented by Vital Theatre Company, this family friendly production tells the story of Fancy Nancy and her friends, Bree, Rhonda, Wanda, and Lionel who are going to perform in their first show, “Deep Sea Dances.” Nancy is certain that she will be picked to be a mermaid, but instead is stuck playing a dreary, dull tree. Will Nancy be able to bring fancy flair to the role, even though it is not the one she wanted?

An “orchestra of voices,” Chanticleer will be gracing The Berman stage while celebrating their 35th anniversary, as part of their tour, performing over 100 concerts worldwide. Since their first record, released in 1981, the group has sold well over a million copies and won two Grammy awards. Their mission is to preform choral music at the highest level of excellence, and to promote worldwide appreciation for ensemble singing through live performances, education, and through the recording and creation of new choral work.

“Golda’s Balcony” tell the incomparable story of Golda Meir, who was born in Kiev and worked as a teacher in Milwaukee before becoming the outspoken, dedicated prime minister of Israel. Performed by Tony Award nominee, Tovah Fedshuh, the originator of the role.

Nathan Gunn has made a reputation as one of the most exciting and in-demand baritones of the day. He has appeared in internationally renowned opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Paris Opera, and Teatro Real in Madrid. A frequent recitalist, he will be joined by pianist Julie Gunn, his wife, on The Berman stage.

University of Illinois professor John Wustman, who instructed Julie Gunn in a master class,  sings high praise of the dynamic duo: “Nathan is just a super-nice guy … friendly, polite… And Julie plays so well … it’s remarkable. They’re both very successful, gifted, attractive people.”

The Haifa Symphony Orchestra of Israel was founded in 1950 and in recent years has become the focal point of musical life in Haifa and the north of Israel. Under the baton of Maestro Noam Sheriff, one of Israel’s most versatile musicians, the Orchestra is embarking on its first ever tour of the United States.  The program will include works of Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky.

The Haifa Symphony Orchestra performance will include: Carl Maria von Weber’s Overture to the Opera Euryanthe, Sergei Rachmaninov’s Piano conerto No. 3 in D Minor, Op. 30, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 36

Coming to The Berman August 29, 2013 7:30 p.m.

Charles will speak about his life as a composer and play some of his most famous music including: Annie’s “Tomorrow,” and Bye Bye Birdie’s “Put on a Happy Face”

There may be no other living composer from American’s songbook whose music is a part of everyday life.  Charles Strouse’s music has attracted Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Tonny Bennett, Bobby Dair, Harry Connick Jr. and Jay-Z to name a few.    A long standing member of the Theatre Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, with songs like “I Don’t Need Anything But You”, and “Tomorrow”, Charles Strouse has brought to life memorable Broadway characters like Annie and Oliver Warbucks.  He has scored for us legendary movie moments from such movies as Bonnie & Clyde…and of course, Charles Strouse has given us the opening music of All in the Family with “Those Were the Days”.

Charles Strouse is a 3-Time Tony Award Winner, 2-Time Emmy Award Winner, and Two-Time Grammy Award Winner. His musicals,  Annie and Bye, Bye, Birdie are among the most popular or all time.
